Although Twickenham Theatre was forced to close its doors after just one run of performances, it has still managed to win the best off-West End production at Sunday’s Whatsonstage awards.
It won the award for its five-week run of Sweeney Todd, despite the fact that the 62-capacity fringe theatre was given only two days notice in October 2014 that it had to close. (The London Road pub beneath it had been sold and the keys to the premises would have to be returned.)
Executive director Tony Green is still searching for a venue for the theatre, but says, “I would like to think we would find somewhere and open again in autumn.”
